Injured Aston Villa pair Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke will again be missing for Saturday's visit of Swansea.Midfielder Ashley Westwood is available after serving a one-match ban. Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is expected to freshen up his side, with the likes of Wilfried Bony, Pablo Hernandez and Jonathan de Guzman all in contention to start. However, the quartet of Michu, Nathan Dyer, Michel Vorm and Garry Monk remain sidelined by injury.
Given the recent fortunes of these two clubs you sense this fixture has taken on greater significance, with an opportunity to end the year on a high.
Villa have now lost four games in a row, while the excursions of the Europa League mean Swansea have taken just 10 points from the last 10 games.
Paul Lambert says it is his job to look upwards but the harsh reality of his team's situation is that they are very much looking over their shoulder.
They are just one point better off than this stage last season, when they endured a long winter before their positive end to the campaign. The biggest concern will be their home form. They have lost six of their nine games at Villa Park this season but the problem is more deep rooted - the home supporters have seen only 11 victories in the last 47.
Villa haven't scored in five of their last six games at home and their total of only six goals is the worst in any of the four top divisions. It is little wonder the natives are restless.
There will be anxiety in the air and Swansea will look to capitalise on that. Michael Laudrup's team have won more games away than at the Liberty stadium.
Despite the fact they are without the injured Michu and are waiting for record signing Wilfried Bony to really start firing, only eight teams have scored more goals than them so far this season.
Whatever the outcome, the Welsh side will look back on 2013 with fond memories. A fifth straight defeat for Villa and they will certainly be glad to see it end.

Head-to-head
Swansea have lost eight of their nine previous league trips to Villa Park, failing to score in all eight defeats. Their solitary win was by 2-0 on 2 January 2012.
This is only the 22nd meeting between the sides. Aston Villa have won 15, Swansea four and there have been two draws.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa have lost four successive league matches. They have not lost five games in a row since January 2001.
They have lost more than half of their last 47 Premier League matches at Villa Park, earning just 45 points in that period (W11, D12, L24).
Paul Lambert's side have not scored in five of their last six Premier League home games. Villa's tally of six goals at home is the lowest in the division and they are the only side yet to score in the first half in front of their own fans.
Villa have failed to score in half of their league matches this season, the joint-worst record in the division.

Swansea
Swansea are enduring a four-match winless streak (D2, L2), their worst run of the season.
They have only won two of their last 10 league matches.
The Swans have benefited from five own goals this season. Apart from when Manchester United had 10 in 2009-10, no team has had more than six in one season.
They are unbeaten after scoring first (W5, D2) but have only taken two points from 10 games after conceding the opening goal.

The only way forward by removing football?

The only way forward by removing football?

The Premier League seems unable to enjoy a weekend filled football without being overshadowed by attempting the dreaded word "d". Not deny diving is commonplace, but once a maneuver avant-garde, this season has shown its filtration into the mainstream. The problem has long been identified yet, the solution remains uncertain. Is it time to mount a campaign to ensure that the guilty are punished retrospectively?

Coverage of the beautiful game carefully invasive means that each incident of litigation is the brilliance of media attention. With supporters refuse to accept its existence in the modern game of makeup and administrators increasingly outraged that begins to decide the outcome has never been a better time to combat the problem?

The threat of a yellow card just is not worth intimidating necessary to deter adult offenders. At present, the potential rewards offered are worth the risk ridicule, especially when there is a new set of talking points that dominate the headlines next week. Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez are two of the best players in the division, but they may permanently stain his reputation blatant falls to the ground.
Mark Clattenburg management Fernando Torres - Jonny Evans confrontation is the perfect example of how public servants can not wait to make a judgment call second division with consistent accuracy. The ugly scenes following the incident were probably fed by its decision and must act as a milestone for change.

Tony Pulis has promised the approval of a retrospective action after seeing his team suffer defeat at Carrow Road. The only goal that won the game for Norwich came from a free kick was awarded when Robert Snodgrass hit the turf under pressure from Andy Wilkinson.

Stoke can be a bit hypocritical in their demands, taking into account the robust and aggressive style of play, but players can book for violent conduct after the game, why not apply the same rules for diving?

"There must be people of football -. Former players who know the game You could have a three-person panel and rotate every week There are many people on the work that can be called on this panel.". (Telegraph)

At first glance, it seems to be a promising concept and could be implemented almost immediately. However, FIFA have been reluctant to approve the plan because it could snowball into consideration of all arbitration decisions or even just encourage more people to promote the use of video evidence during match. Sepp Blatter, also echoed the belief that Roy Hodgson would be almost impossible to trust the sincerity of others.

It is by no means a radical idea, the Italian Football Federation has a similar system in place. In 2010, there was uproar when midfielder Milos Krasic Juventus was suspended two games for diving clear, but despite strong protests from the Old Lady, the suspension is served in its entirety.

Last weekend Alessio Cerci Torino and Sampdoria Marcelo Estigarribia was fined € 2,000 for acts of simulation and as such just fine echo in the consciousness of a footballer, he does at least highlight consistency the struggle to eliminate the comedy series A.

In my eyes, any proposed group should only intervene in cases painfully obvious, like frog splash Suarez against Stoke last week. As Gary Neville expert explained later in the saga of Ashley Young, it is impossible to condemn a player diving when the contact was clearly established. Similarly, there is a strong case for the players go to ground in order to attract the attention of the referee charges.

Unfortunately, despite the growing need to address the issue, we are more likely to have additional staff placed at each end of the field as a resolution. Unfortunately, as it appears to fight Mario Balotelli during the height of Tuesday's draw with Ajax, hesitation wizard wand does nothing to affect the game if you can see a flagrant when it is just in front of them, what hope has a will?
The arbitrators found in surreal levels of pressure to try to eradicate the material, but it only served to pile more mistakes in the procedures that were already plagued by errors. It seems impossible that the work was a little more difficult.

MATCH PREVIEW
Chelsea's excellent start to the domestic season was put into context Rather sharply in Donetsk on Tuesday night When They Looked anything but champions of Europe.
At the same time, Braga Were giving Manchester United a much Tougher night than anticipated. Nevertheless, both, Chelsea and United started the season Have more convincingly than the domestic champions, Manchester City.
Chelsea Have beens Certainly the exceptional side in the Premier League so far, and United and City cannot Know That They Afford to just keep an eye on each other alone.
Thankfully the importance of this game should reduce to a sideshow the speculation about who may or may not shake Whose hand beforehand. It must have been on John Terry's Mind that in choosing not to appeal his four-game ban, he Ruled himself out of this match and the forthcoming Capital One Cup tie against United. The timing is good - his divisive presence is the last thing needed Either game.
In fact, one of Roberto Di Matteo's successful tricks has-beens to begin the process of easing Both John Terry and Frank Lampard off the list of Chelsea untouchables without Creating anything like the fuss That Happened When Andre Villas-Boas tried the same thing a year ago .
Patrice Evra Ramires of Chelsea challenges Patrice Evra of Manchester United during the Barclays Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on October 28, 2012 in London, England.

I recall Having a difference of opinion with Villas-Boas Effective this fixture last season. You may remember That United cam from 3-0 down to draw. In the post-match interview Suggested That I HAD beens Chelsea lucky to be 3-0 up in the first place - AVB did not agree and a sparky exchange Followed!
United are yet to play at Their Very Best this season goal van Persie has-been integrated seamlessly, Jones and Smalling are yet to kick a ball, Ashley Young is to come back along with Vidic and Cleverley Have Been Kagawa and used sparingly. Over the course of the season I think I would just take United to pip Chelsea - over 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge, I am not so sure.
Wayne Rooney of Manchester United is challenged by Ramires of Chelsea during the Barclays Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on October 28, 2012 in London, England.
