Roberto Soldado hails Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen after Norwich win

The 21-year-old made the switch from Ajax last month, but the international break meant that he had to wait to make his Spurs bow, starting in the 2-0 win over Norwich City.

Eriksen assisted Gylfi Sigurdsson for the opening goal and impressed throughout, earning the praise of fellow new arrival and team-mate, Soldado. "He is a brilliant player.

It's incredible that he has got up to this level already in his first game in English football," the Spain international said.

"It's great for him, for the team. He is a player who is capable of improving all of us. "He is a player that makes everything look easy and that's good for us. T

oday he made the difference; he's a player that can support us in everything we do. He can offer us a lot of passes to everyone who plays in attack for Spurs.

" Soldado also recognised the significance of the victory, saying that Spurs' campaign could depend on winning these kind of games.

"We know that it's important to get three points at home, that will be clear at the end of the season," he said. "I was close to scoring, but winning games always comes first for me."

Moses backing from Rodgers

The 24-year-old made a deadline-day switch from Chelsea to spend the season at Anfield and add to Rodgers' growing attacking options.

"In terms of this summer, it was probably unexpected for him," the Reds boss said. "He's a player that has got experience - he's 24 years of age and became available for us.

"It's a unique opportunity for him; he's leaving a very good club, that has been successful, and he's coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"There are not many players that get a chance to do that. He's coming here to prove himself." While the deal was done late, it was no snap decision by Rodgers as he had banked plenty of information about the player over the last few years.

"I know he will work well because he's a good guy; I met him when he was 16 and nearly signed him at Chelsea then," said the Northern Irishman, referring to his time as youth coach at Stamford Bridge.

"He came to us to train while he was a young player at Crystal Palace. "Everything was set up for him to come to Chelsea at the time and for whatever reason it fell through and he stayed.

"I know what I'm getting. He's got the profile that suits our game in terms of his technique, his quality and he's a humble guy.

"He had some good performances for Nigeria when he was away (in the last fortnight) and he really looking forward to getting in a Liverpool shirt.

"Like a lot of our attacking players, they are flexible, have good tactical intelligence and are comfortable to play in two or three positions.

"When he was a young player, he was the number nine so he can play in the central striking role or can move. In any one of those top four positions, he's comfortable.

"We've seen him a lot playing from the left side, where he cuts in - he's got great feet, great ability, can shoot off either foot and can beat a man, which is important for us.

" Moses is set to make his debut for his new club at Swansea tonight as Liverpool look to make it four successive league wins at the start of a season - something they have not done since 1990-91 and only achieved twice (1969-70, 1978-79) before that since returning to the top flight in 1962. Premier League: Andre Villas-Boas hails Tottenham's Christian Eriksen

The Denmark international midfielder enjoyed a fine debut for Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday, contributing a key role in the 2-0 win over Norwich. Eriksen claimed an assist for Gylfi Sigurdsson's opener and was involved in the Icelander's second goal too.

His £11m transfer fee from Ajax may be seen as a bargain in due course and many observers have wondered why Eriksen has not ended up at a bigger club which can guarantee him Champions League football. Villas-Boas believes there is still some trepidation over entering into multi-million deals involving Eredivisie clubs, but has no fears himself over the 21-year-old's potential. "It's difficult because the disparity between the clubs in the Dutch league is so big that whenever you have players that perform at this level, it is hard to judge if it is based on individual quality or lack of quality from the opponent," explained the Tottenham manager. "I think this happened with Wesley Sneijder and Rafa van der Vaart.
Most clubs knew they had the potential but it took time for them to grab them - this is probably what happened with Christian. "We saw him live last season because we thought hard about the possibility of bringing him last season as well. "He he has all the conditions to become a great player. The Premier League will offer him the kind of challenge that he didn't have in the Dutch league." Eriksen could get another chance to pull the strings in the Spurs midfield when Tromso visit the Lane on Thursday night for the first Europa League Group K fixture of the season. "I think Christian is a pure number 10," said Villas-Boas to the Daily Mail. "That's because of his creativity and also the position he has occupied all of his life. He is naturally gifted in that position. "His vision, his ability to see forward when he receives the ball are the characteristics you want in a playmaker."

Moyes has plan for Rooney

Moyes has plan for Rooney

Last season under Sir Alex Ferguson, van Persie was quickly confirmed as United's leading striker with Rooney starting just 22 games - the lowest tally since he moved to Old Trafford - in a plethora of roles. But Moyes seems intent on seeing Rooney playing just off van Persie as he did in Saturday's win over Crystal Palace - as he returned ahead of schedule after picking up a serious gash to his head which forced him out of England's World Cup double-header with Moldova and Ukraine. "The hope is that we get a partnership where folk are saying, 'My goodness, we are having to play against Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney!'" said Moyes. "To be successful you need to have people who can score you 20 goals. I am hoping with Robin and Wayne you have two there who you would say they have that in them to do that." And for Rooney to hit his goal target he confirmed he would not be playing in midfield, when asked if he would be dropped deeper - Moyes replied: "Not just now.
"I can only see Wayne playing up top and playing as a forward for us. I don't have a goals target for him. But his targets have been big in recent years. "We will try and get him up there. But Wayne's game is a little bit more. "He has developed into one of those centre-forwards who drops into spaces to pick the ball up. He plays in a slightly different way so you have to appreciate him for what he does and his style of play.

That's what he is." Moyes defended United's decision to play Rooney, given just days earlier he was deemed unfit to play for England. "We wanted to try to get Wayne through 90 minutes.

I wanted to keep him on, get some minutes under his belt and get him ready for the coming weeks and months," he said. "He has got himself in good physical condition but he lacks match practice because of his injuries. In the first half he was excellent but tired in the second. "It was a difficult decision to play him because it was a nasty cut. The headband didn't arrive until Friday - he felt he could wear it so we thought we'd get him out there." Rooney is now in line to feature in this week's Champions League opener with Bayer Leverkusen and the Manchester derby against City on Sunday.

Andre Villa Boas will look to his big money signings, Soldado, Lamela and Erickson to help the crowd forget Bale and I think that on Saturday the shackles will come off a Tottenham team that have stuggled to score from open play thus far this season. Spurs have only netted two goals in three games and all three of their games this season have finished 1-0. Norwich City have also struggled in front of goal and won 1-0 last time out against Southampton in a game that they easily could have lost. Overall, Norwich manager Chris Hughton is doing a great job and he will look to set his team up to be hard to beat when the Canaries visit Tottenham this weekend. But on Saturday, I have a feeling that Tottenham are due a big offensive performance and I think if spurs get on top early, they could win this game by three or 4. I'm going to take Tottenham to win minus the handicap.
This week FootyMad's match preview focuses on the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City at 15:00 on 14th September 2013 in the Premier League.
Footymad preview History of the Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City fixture

Tottenham Hotspur prepare to entertain Norwich City at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, looking to continue an impressive record. The Spurs are clearly on top, having won 15 and lost only 5 of the 27 games.
The most recent encounter between these two sides at White Hart Lane was just last season, in September 2012, where the two sides shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 final scoreline in a Premier League match.
Tottenham Hotspur could not have a worse home record, losing every single one of the last six matches played! These low-scoring games have seen just 0 goals scored and conceded.
The away form of Norwich City is pretty dire, losing every single one of the last six matches played! These low-scoring games have seen just 0 goals scored and conceded.
Tottenham Hotspur lie just outside the playoff positions in the Barclays Premier League, picking up 6 points from their 3 games so far.
Norwich City's 4 points from 3 games sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 9th position.

The club looks much different than it did a year ago.
Who knows how tired Howard will be, but with Everton still winless and currently sitting 15th, expect the 34-year-old to be between the sticks for this one.
The biggest addition for Everton over the summer is a player Chelsea fans are familiar with—striker Romelu Lukaku. He has been loaned out by the Blues for a second straight year and makes no bones about the fact he is pulling for his new club in this ESPNFC story.
The reason the 20-year-old was loaned out again probably had to do with the signing of Samuel Eto’o (Anzhi Makhachkala), who suffered a slight injury for his native Cameroon against Libya in World Cup qualifying earlier this week.
However, Eto’o was training with Chelsea mid-week and may see his first action for the team here on Saturday.
Other Blues players notable by their absence this season are Juan Mata, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta. Expect all three to get some playing time now the Premier League has revved up and the Champions League is on the not-so-distant horizon.
New signing Willian (Anzhi Makhachkala) should get some valuable minutes so don’t expect any regular starting XI’s from manager Jose Mourinho for the time being as he seeks chemistry from new players who have never played together.
With Lukaku now at Everton, Demba Ba shaky in his recent appearances and 32-year-old Eto’o still unfamiliar with teammates—and possibly nursing a minor injury—expect Fernando Torres to again be the preferred starter up front if Mourinho stays with a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Another player who may start is Andre Schurrle, especially with both Lukaku and Victor Moses (Liverpool) out on loan. So far Schurrle has been impressive when used across the attack but Lukaku and Moses are two incredible talents not to have room for.
Chelsea and goalkeeper Petr Cech have allowed just one goal this season but the Blues should really have their work cut out for them on the road here against Howard and Everton.

In their last 10 meetings, the clubs are 3-4-3, each with 14 goals. Both had 0-0 draws in their last league games so scoring could be at a premium. In this Goodison meeting last season, the Blues were 2-1 winners.
Chelsea is favorite here but this one will be too close to call so why not take a little chance wagering the draw and hope for a 0-0, 1-1 or 2-2 final score?
Makes sense as the Blues haven’t exactly looked world-beaters on offense yet, and the unbeaten but winless Toffees and Leighton Baines will do everything to get their first three points— they will at least put up one helluva fight on home soil.
With both sides coming off the international break and 0-0 scores last time out in Premier League play, an equally small play on the under also makes sense.

Their recent history suggests that there isn't any reason to be overconfident, but early returns have this Liverpool side forging a new path this season with Brendan Rodgers at the helm.
They'll have to continue that trend against his old side tomorrow, with Michael Laudrup in his old role, having led Swansea City to the League Cup trophy last season and a spot in this season's Europa League. They've stuttered a bit at the start of the Premier League season, earning only three points from their first three matches. All of those came in the win at West Brom prior to the international break, as losses at home to Manchester United and away to Spurs had left them bottom of the table after two matches played. It's been a different story in the Europa League, however, where they've cruised through qualifying and are now set to take on Valencia on Thursday to start group play.

Team News:
In-form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is likely be fit to face Swansea on Monday despite missing two England matches with a thigh problem.
New signings Mamadou Sakho and Victor Moses are set for their first involvement in the squad after signing late in the transfer window.
Right-back Glen Johnson is sidelined for four to five weeks with an ankle injury so Andre Wisdom is set to deputise.
Meanwhile, Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from for Monday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool.
Full-back Neil Taylor is the only definite absentee as the Wales international remains on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
Deadline-day signing Alvaro Vazquez could be handed the chance to make his Swansea debut in attack, while midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has overcome the thigh problem that kept him out of England Under-21 action.
Liverpool hope an extra two days will give Daniel Sturridge the chance to recover from the thigh injury that ruled him out of England duty when the club travels to Swansea on Monday

Match Notes:
The relief of winning at West Brom - for the first time this season - will certainly give Michael Laudrup's side a lift going into Monday's televised game against leaders Liverpool.
Their progress in Europe was punctuated by two early losses in the league, but with Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday coming up, a morale booster against Brendan Rodgers' side would not go amiss.
Liverpool have started like the proverbial house on fire and Rodgers will be hoping that leading scorer Daniel Sturridge is fit to lead the line at the Liberty Stadium.
Betting: Home 12-5, Away 11-10, Draw 5-2.
Stat of the game: Liverpool are one victory short of 400 in the Premier League.
Graham Clutton's prediction: Swansea City 2 Liverpool 2.

Swansea City (Possible, 4-4-1-1): Vorm; Rangel, Williams, Chico, Davies; Routledge, Shelvey, Canas, hernandez; Michu; Bony.
Liverpool (Possible, 4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Wisdom, Sakho, Agger, Enrique; Gerrard, Lucas; Coutinho, Henderson, Aspas; Sturridge.
Out: Allen (hamstring), Cissokho (ankle), Johnson, Coates (both knee), Suárez (suspended).
