Arsenal can go four points clear temporarily at the top of the Barclays Premier League if they extend their winning run to eight matches at Southampton on Tuesday. Arsene Wenger's side have found consistency since their 6-3 defeat by Manchester City in December, claiming seven consecutive triumphs in all competitions. They were ruthless in the 4-0 FA Cup defeat of League One Coventry City on Friday and, while much is made of the threat they carry going forward, they have conceded only two goals in the last eight matches.
Wenger's charges have not lost to Southampton since November 2002, but can expect a stern test at St Mary's as they attempt to extend their lead at the top, with City and Chelsea not in action until Wednesday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his first Arsenal start since August against Coventry following a long injury lay-off. The player could be back on the substitutes' bench against his former club, but he is relishing the prospect of returning to the south coast once again.
"To go back there in any sense is always really nice, especially when we go to play them,” he told the club's website. "Last season I went back there and it was a surreal feeling for me, warming up on the opposite side of the pitch and being in the opposite dressing room.
"It was the first time I went back there to play so it was a bit weird for me. I'm looking forward to going back this season, obviously they're doing really well so it's a tough game for us."
Lukas Podolski staked his claim by scoring twice against Coventry, but the Germany forward could also return to the bench. Mikel Arteta (calf), Aaron Ramsey (thigh), Tomas Rosicky (broken nose) and Thomas Vermaelen (knee) are set to be back in contention. Wojciech Szczesny, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Bacary Sagna are expected to be restored to the starting line-up. Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott (both knee) are long-term absentees.
Southampton have won their last three home games and striker Guly do Prado warned Arsenal not to expect an easy ride after scoring in Saturday's FA Cup win over Yeovil Town.

"We get confidence from these wins," the striker told the club's website. "We play for a win in every game, whether it’s in the FA Cup or the Premier League.  The win [v Yeovil] will give us confidence for Tuesday night against Arsenal. Now we have to think about that because it's going to be another big, hard game – but we are going to play to win."
Rickie Lambert (hamstring) and Artur Boruc (back) are expected to return after missing the clash with Yeovil and Victor Wanyama (calf) could feature for the first time since early last month.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is still suspended following a training-ground incident, while Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez (both ankle) remain sidelined.

Swansea City will eye the visit of Fulham as an opportunity to arrest an eight-game winless run in the Barclays Premier League. That alarming dip in form has dropped Michael Laudrup's side to within three points of the relegation zone, having enjoyed an eight-point cushion in early December, when Fulham were 18th.
Rene Meulensteen's side have since climbed one place but the gap to Swansea is just two points and Fulham can go above their hosts for the first time since August with victory on Tuesday.
Away days have provided Fulham with little cheer this season, particularly since the 4-1 win at Crystal Palace in October. Fulham have played seven away matches in the top flight since that triumph, winning just one and conceding 22 goals in the process.
Swansea's recent home form will offer the visitors some cause for optimism, however, with Laudrup's men having lost their last three at the Liberty Stadium. The hosts may cite mitigating circumstances, though, having played Everton, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in that run.
November's meeting between the two had Swansea run out 2-1 winners, Jonjo Shelvey netting the winner in the last 10 minutes. Wilfried Bony was the Welsh club's hero in the FA Cup on Saturday as he came off the bench at half-time to score twice and secure a 2-1 triumph over Birmingham City. With six goals in his last six games, the Ivorian is likely to start against Fulham, but Laudrup has several injury concerns.

Shelvey (hamstring), Michu and Jose Canas (both ankle) are out, while midfielders Nathan Dyer (ankle) and Jonathan de Guzman (calf), as well as goalkeeper Michel Vorm (knee), could come into the reckoning.
The visitors, having made 11 changes in the 1-1 draw in the FA Cup against Sheffield United on Sunday, will be comparatively fresh, with Fernando Amorebieta (knee) and Matt Briggs (hernia) their only absentees.

Swansea City (from): Tremmel, Vorm, Zabret, Amat, Chico, Davies, Meade, Obeng, Rangel, Situ, Taylor, Tiendalli, Williams, Britton, Dyer, Pablo, Pozuelo, Richards, Routledge, Bony, Donnelly, Lamah, Lita, Vazquez.

The Spain midfielder completed his £37.1m move from Chelsea on Saturday and is expected to go straight into the starting line-up against the side managed by former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Mata's arrival is a boost for United, who exited the Capital One Cup on penalties in their semi-final against Sunderland last week on the back of a 3-0 top-flight defeat at Chelsea.
Manager David Moyes’ team drew 2-2 at Cardiff in November in the first meeting between the two sides since 1975 and since then Solskjaer has replaced Malky Mackay at the Welsh club. The 40-year-old can expect a rapturous reception on his return to Old Trafford, where he spent 11 years during his playing days and enjoyed a major role in such a successful period in United's history, including scoring the winner in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final.
The Norwegian has been charged with the task of keeping Cardiff in the Barclays Premier League, but they slipped to the bottom of the table with a 4-2 defeat at Manchester City in their last top-flight match.
Cardiff need to improve their away form if they are to avoid a return to the Championship, as they have won only once on their travels in the top flight. Solskjaer's side did triumph at Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but Cardiff have taken just a point from their last six Barclays Premier League games.
The Cardiff boss will be hoping that United’s Robin van Persie (thigh) and Wayne Rooney (groin) are not yet ready to return. Moyes will also assess the fitness of Rio Ferdinand (knee), Nani (hamstring) and Michael Carrick (ankle), but captain Nemanja Vidic will not feature as he serves the second match of his suspension following his red card at Chelsea.
Kenwyne Jones could make his Cardiff debut if a swap deal with Stoke City involving Peter Odemwingie goes through in time and forward Jo Inge Berget could make his league bow after his move from Molde last week.  Fraizer Campbell, Steven Caulker and Craig Noone are expected to return to the starting line-up.
Manchester United (from): De Gea, Lindegaard, Buttner, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Ferdinand, Jones, Rafael, Smalling, Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini, Fletcher, Giggs, Januzaj, Kagawa, Nani, Valencia, Young, Hernandez, Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck, Zaha.
Cardiff City (from): Lewis, Marshall, Amondarain, Caulker, Connolly, Hudson, McNaughton, Theophile-Catherine, Turner, Cowie, Daehli, Eikrem, Gunnarsson, Kim, Medel, Mutch, Noone, Whittingham, Bellamy, Campbell, Cornelius, Odemwingie, Smith, Velikonja, Berget.
Solskjaer's side did win at Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but Cardiff have taken just a point from their last six Premier League games.

The Cardiff boss will be hoping United strike duo Robin van Persie (thigh) and Wayne Rooney (groin) are not yet ready to return.
Moyes will also assess the fitness of Rio Ferdinand (knee), Nani (hamstring) and Michael Carrick (ankle), but captain Nemanja Vidic will not definitely not feature as he serves the second of a two-match suspension following his red card at Chelsea.
Kenwyne Jones could make his Cardiff debut if a swap deal with Stoke City involving Peter Odemwingie goes through in time and forward Jo Inge Berget could make his bow following his move from Molde last week.

Norwich City host a Newcastle United side looking to improve a poor record at Carrow Road. Chris Hughton, the Norwich manager, will be facing his former club on Tuesday after his team moved five points clear of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Hull City last Saturday, their first victory in seven top-flight games.
Norwich know a second straight success could move them into the top half of the table and history is on their side, as they have not lost to Newcastle at home since a 2-1 defeat back in 1994. However, Alan Pardew’s team can be confident of ending their 20-year wait for a win at Carrow Road after a 3-1 triumph at West Ham United last weekend.
That result ended a run of four straight defeats in all competitions for Newcastle, with Yohan Cabaye scoring twice to take his tally for the season to seven. The France midfielder Cabaye is likely to be key to Newcastle's fortunes, while striker Loic Remy will look to score for a second consecutive match after scoring his first goal in five games against West Ham.
Defender Mathieu Debuchy returns for the visitors following a three-match suspension, leaving captain Fabricio Coloccini and Ryan Taylor (both knee) as Newcastle's only significant absentees.
Norwich are still without defenders Michael Turner and Elliot Bennett (both knee), midfielder Jonathan Howson (back) and Newcastle loanee Jonas Gutierrez, who is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Norwich are winless in the four previous Barclays Premier League meetings between the two sides, a streak that includes a 2-1 loss at St James' Park in November. Hughton hopes his players will be able to cement their Barclays Premier League status in the second half of the season.
"What encourages me is what I see in the changing room," he told the Eastern Daily Press. "They're a good group that really wants to do well and they're motivated to do well."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that new £21m signing Nemanja Matic will not start against Manchester United. Fellow midfielder Frank Lampard could return from a calf problem but Branislav Ivanovic remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has ruled out strikers Wayne Rooney (groin) and Robin van Persie (thigh) for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Defender Rafael serves the last of his three-match ban.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. It's the tale of Mourinho versus Manchester United.
Chapter one started with a mad March hare-like sprint down the Old Trafford touchline back in the spring of 2004 as Costinha's last-minute goal for FC Porto won a Champions League second-round tie. Chapter two, five months later, was Mourinho's first fixture in English football; it ended in a Chelsea win.
Turn the pages and the plot has thickened as these games against United seem to stand like landmarks measuring the highs and lows of Mourinho's story; bringing one of his conspicuous failures when at Inter, one of his major successes at Real Madrid.
In all, with four clubs, Mourinho has faced Manchester United 17 times, losing only twice.
The latest meeting also went the Portuguese's way. Back in August he travelled to Old Trafford with getting a draw plainly on his agenda. He stifled the life out of United and the game and got the goalless stalemate he wanted.
Mourinho's plan for these games against his biggest rivals seems to be to draw away and win at home, and it's working. Chelsea also drew 0-0 in a tedious pre-Christmas bore-fest at Arsenal, drew at Spurs with 10-men and they've beaten Manchester City and Liverpool at the Bridge. So far, so good.
Can Manchester United derail the master plan? It would be the best result yet for David Moyes at United if they do, easily surpassing the crushing victory in Leverkusen.
If United were to lose it would leave them 12 points adrift of Chelsea with only 16 more games to play and surely with far too much to do to even get a mention in the final chapter of the title story.
Even a United win wouldn't catapult them back into the title reckoning, but it could do a huge amount to repair their damaged confidence.
United have won five of their last six league games and are certainly entitled to believe that the top four is an achievable goal. But if they're to do that they need some landmarks wins of their own somewhere. Stamford Bridge would be the best place to start.

Head-to-head
Manchester United have won more games than Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with 30 wins to Chelsea's 22.
The last fixture at Stamford Bridge saw United win 3-2 against Chelsea's nine men in October 2012.
Jose Mourinho has never lost a home game against Manchester United in two spells as Chelsea manager.
There have been four red cards in as many seasons in fixtures between the two clubs.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho is looking for his 100th Premier League victory as manager.
The Blues have won five and drawn one of their last six Premier League games, conceding only two goals.
Chelsea have won a league-high four Premier League matches from losing positions.
It is 19 games since Chelsea last lost at Stamford Bridge - a 1-0 derby defeat by Queens Park Rangers on 2 January 2013.
Eden Hazard has already matched his tally of nine league goals from last season.
Juan Mata has scored on each of his last three league appearances against Manchester United.

Manchester United
United are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League away matches (W5, D2).
They have lost six of their first 21 league matches for the first time since 2001-02.
David Moyes' side have only won two of 10 matches against top-half opposition this season (W2, D3, L5).
The Red Devils have earned 10 points from losing positions, a record bettered only by Chelsea (14).
Danny Welbeck has scored in his last three Premier League games for United, and has six goals in as many appearances.

Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm, striker Roland Lamah and defender Dwight Tiendalli may return after respective knee, abductor and hamstring injuries. Wingers Pablo Hernandez and Nathan Dyer could also be available after injury, but Jonathan de Guzman remains out with an ankle problem.Spurs winger Andros Townsend scored for the under-21 side in midweek on his return from a hamstring injury. Midfielder Sandro is also expected to return after a month out.
Swansea City's name barely gets a mention when the pundits offer up their considered thoughts on which three clubs will be relegated from the Premier League this season. Maybe they're fooled by the Swans position in the table.
They are 13th heading into the weekend. It sounds safe, but a three-point advantage over the drop zone is the far less convincing reality.
Add a winless run of seven games, including four defeats in five, and it becomes easy to appreciate why many fans are becoming concerned. Injuries haven't helped their cause and maybe the extra workload brought by progressing to the last 32 of the Europa League has had a negative impact too.
They've already played 10 matches in the competition and wouldn't be the first club to struggle to cope with the Thursday-Sunday schedule.
Napoli await in the next round and Swans boss Michael Laudrup will want more than a few Premier League points added before the Italian giants roll up at the Liberty in a month's time.
Recent history suggests the Dane won't get many, if any, against Tottenham who have won the last four meetings between the clubs. Gareth Bale was amongst the scorers on their last visit to Wales in March, while a Roberto Soldado penalty secured victory at White Hart Lane earlier this season.
Like Swansea, Spurs are also through to the knockout stages of the Europa League but their squad boasts the depth and experience to handle a hectic fixture list.
Since Tim Sherwood became head coach their league form has improved dramatically too, picking up 13 points out of a possible 15 to rejuvenate hopes of a top-four finish.
Suddenly Spurs are scoring again. The return from the cold of Emmanuel Adebayor and of Christian Eriksen after injury has helped enormously.
Swansea have never beaten Tottenham in the Premier League and I don't expect that to change just yet with Welsh worries intensifying and Spurs still soaring come Sunday teatime.

Head-to-head
Spurs are unbeaten against Swansea in six league encounters, five of which came in the last three seasons. (W5, D1)
Swansea City's last league win against Tottenham Hotspur came in October 1982, when Max Thompson and Bob Latchford scored - one of only 10 wins for the relegated Swans that season.
Jimmy Gilligan scored a League Cup second round first-leg winner for Swansea in September 1991, but Spurs rallied to win 5-1 in the return leg at White Hart Lane.

Swansea City
Swansea are without a win in seven Premier League games (D3, L4). It is their worst run of the season.
Their previous longest sequence without a win was nine games in the Championship between November and December 2008.
The Swans have conceded the first goal in 13 of 21 league games.
City have lost four more matches (10) than they had at this stage last season.

Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs are unbeaten in five league games, winning four and drawing one.
Tottenham have won their last four away league matches.
The nine clean sheets kept by Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris is the joint-highest tally in the Premier League this season.
Michael Dawson is Tottenham's only ever-present in the Premier League this season.
Four of Roberto Soldado's five league goals have come from the penalty spot.

Birmingham City are without Tom Adeyemi and Peter Lovenkrands for their FA Cup third round tie with League Two side Bristol Rovers at St Andrew's. Lovenkrands is struggling with a groin issue, while Adeyemi has a back injury. Bristol Rovers defender Mark McChrystal is fit, having got over a thigh injury. Danny Woodards, who has recovered from a serious knee injury, is again expected to be included after making his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the win against Exeter. Birmingham midfielder Darren Ambrose is set to complete a loan move to Greek Super League side Apollon Smyrni until the end of the season
The winners of the tie will play Swansea City, conquerors of Manchester United, in the fourth round.
This fixture was delayed because the second-round tie between Rovers and Crawley was twice postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
It finally went ahead on 8 January, Rovers winning 2-1.
Birmingham manager Lee Clark told BBC WM:
"It's as big as game as any game we've had, if not bigger.
"There are financial implications that are crucial to our club, with the chance of a home tie against a Premier League club in the next round.
"We don't want to be one of those involved in a shock result. We'll be fielding a very, very strong side and changes will be to a very bare minimum."
Bristol Rovers manager John Ward told BBC Radio Bristol:
"I expect us to do well. I expect us to be ready and up for the game because it is our biggest game.
"We have done well in the last couple of games, we have scored four goals, so there is a confidence factor about that, particularly getting the winner as late as we did on Saturday. It stands us in good stead.
"I want my players to have a go - if we win it is fantastic, but if we get beat, there is a bit of glory still to be had, and we will move on to York City."

This game will finally take place after Bristol Rovers won 2-1 against Crawley in their FA Cup second round replay on Wednesday, 8 January. It was the third time the replay was arranged to be played, after being abandoned in December and postponed on 4 January because of a waterlogged pitch.
This is the first ever meeting between these sides in the FA Cup.
Birmingham are unbeaten in the last 11 meetings in all competitions, winning the last three.
Birmingham have finished as runners-up twice in this competition - in 1931 and 1956. Bristol Rovers have gone as far as the quarter-finals on three occasions - most recently in 2008.

Sergio Aguero will return to the Manchester City squad for Wednesday's FA Cup third round replay against Blackburn at Etihad Stadium. The Argentina forward has been out since 14 December with a calf injury sustained in the 6-3 win over Arsenal.
"Sergio is working normally with the whole squad and he is on the squad list for tomorrow," City manager Manuel Pellegrini said.
Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes could start on the substitutes bench.
Aguero is City's leading scorer this season with 19 goals.
City, second in the Premier League table, have won seven of the eight matches they have played since Aguero's injury, with the 1-1 FA Cup draw at Blackburn the only lapse.
But Pellegrini feels the 25-year-old is still an integral part of the team.
"He is a very important player for us," the ex-Malaga manager added
"It doesn't matter if we are scoring a lot of goals, Sergio will always be a very important player and we are happy he is coming back."
Defender Scott Dann equalised to earn Rovers, eighth in the Championship table, a replay when the teams met at Ewood Park on 4 January.
Rovers manager Gary Bowyer says his team will relish the role of the underdog.
"We've got everything to gain," added Bowyer.
"No one outside of our dressing room gives us a prayer and they are situations we quite like.
"We learn more about our players and they're really going to be tested on Wednesday.
"The players are excited about the opportunity to play against them again."

Sergio Aguero and Micah Richards are back in training but both are not yet ready for a first-team return.West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will put Roger Johnson straight into his squad after the defender signed on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season.
They are still without a host of injured players including Winston Reid and Andy Carroll, while captain Kevin Nolan is banned.
A trip to the Etihad is probably the last ground in English football that beleaguered West Ham manager Sam Allardyce would like his team to visit right now given his side's shocking run of form and appalling injury list.
The 5-0 defeat his shadow side suffered at the hands of Championship club Nottingham Forest at the weekend saw speculation increase that Allardyce was set to lose his job but in a letter to the club's supporters he received the backing, for now, from Hammers' co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
West Ham have never won the League Cup but the odds on them beating Manchester City over two legs of this semi-final are very long indeed. City are unstoppable at home and have scored an incredible 53 goals in 14 matches at the Etihad this season.
Allardyce will surely be hoping the best his injury-ravaged squad can do is limit the damage to give his side any hope in the second leg at Upton Park.

Head-to-head
Manchester City have met West Ham United once in the League Cup back in 1984, beating the Hammers 2-1 in a replay at Upton Park after a goalless draw at Maine Road.
City won the last meeting between the two clubs, away at Upton Park, 3-1 in October.
West Ham have won only once at the Etihad Stadium, beating City in an FA Cup quarter-final tie in 2006.
Both clubs were semi-finalists in 1964 and 2011, with West Ham losing to the eventual winners on both occasions.

Manchester City
City have twice won the League Cup, beating West Bromwich Albion in 1970 and Newcastle United in 1976 - and were losing finalists against Wolves in 1974.
Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko has scored in all three of City's ties so far this season.
None of City's League Cup scorers this season have been English.
Liverpool are the only side to beat Manchester City in a home semi-final tie in this competition - in 1981 and 2012.

West Ham United
West Ham have been losing finalists twice in League Cup history - versus West Bromwich Albion in 1966 and Liverpool in 1981.
The Hammers have scored nine goals in four League Cup ties, almost half the 19 goals they have scored in 20 league games.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce led former club Bolton to the 2004 League Cup final where they lost to Middlesbrough.

The two sides, who drew 0-0 in the initial tie on 7 December, will look to settle their second roundreplay for the third time.
The first attempt on 18 December was abandoned midway through the second half because of a waterlogged pitch, and the fixture was re-arranged for Saturday, 4 January.
However the match was postponed when the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium failed aninspection.
The winners of this tie will face a trip to Championship club Birmingham City in the third round on Wednesday, 15 January.
The eventual winners of that match will welcome Premier League side Swansea, who knocked out Manchester United, in the fourth round on the weekend of 25-26 January.
Crawley Town manager John Gregory told BBC Sussex:
"They have been a little bit indifferent. They are a bit hot and cold which is possibly why they are where they are in League Two.
"Whenever the game does go ahead they will be fired up and have nothing to lose.
"The draw has pitched the winner to travel to Birmingham and it is an opportunity to make extra finance as well.
"Maybe me and John Ward should have a penalty shoot-out in the car park to get it sorted and find out who the winner is. I'd back myself on that one."
After falling two goals behind on Saturday, defender James Hurst was withdrawn early as Gregory opted to alter his system with his fantastic replacement, Andy Drury, will probably be hoping to did enough to earn a recall for the starting XI.
Mark McChrystal isn't likely to return to action for Bristol Rovers. The centre-back rejoined his team-mates for training on Monday morning having endured tendinitis as part of his knee but this cup clash looks to possess come too soon for the 29-year-old.
Long-term injury absentees Jim Paterson and Danny Woodards may also be back in full training but the pair need some matches under their belt before being considered for first-team action.

Defender Garry Kenneth left the club my mutual consent on Tuesday and definately will therefore also not be involved, although he was unlikely to feature.
Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe was Rovers' first reduction in 10 and they will head to Crawley as underdogs despite drawing 0-0 within the original tie.
John Gregory should go in search of his first win in control of Crawley after they host Bristol Rovers within their FA Cup second-round replay at the Broadfield Stadium.
