Arsenal to trigger Loic Remy's £8million transfer release clause this summer

By Neil Moxley
The France forward has impressed on loan at Newcastle United and Arsene Wenger wants him on board at the Emirates Stadium

Loic who it is! Remy is on Arsenal's radar
Arsene Wenger will use an £8million clause in Loic Remy’s contract to gazump Newcastle United for the forward’s signature this summer, writes Neil Moxley of the Sunday People .
The France international has a get-out in his agreement that allows him to quit QPR for that figure and the Arsenal boss is poised to pounce.
Remy has spent this season on loan with the Tynesiders, jumping ship after the west London team was relegated last term.
Remy’s 13 goals this season have played a major part in pushing Alan Pardew’s men up the Premier League table.
And there are growing signs that Lukas Podolski will not be the answer for Arsenal on a long-term basis and Wenger needs extra firepower.
Rangers, who posted £65.4m losses this week, will have little say in the matter once the clause has been activated.

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado admits had he been younger, he would have returned to Spain by now.

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado admits had he been younger, he would have returned to Spain by now.
By Francisco Acedo
The 28-year-old joined Spurs in the summer for a then club-record fee of £28million.
However, he has struggled for form with just six league goals to his name and his winner against Cardiff at the weekend was his first from open play at White Hart Lane.
And Soldado has revealed that had his struggles occurred earlier in his career, it could have forced him to quit the Premier League.
"If all this had happened to me when I was 22, I would have probably returned home after a month, but I believe it is a positive experience for me, my family and for the education of my children," he told Radio Onda Cero.
"I am the only one responsible for my poor form, but I will get better.
"We have a great team and I am convinced we can have a good season."
He admits his winner against Cardiff was important for him, adding: "It was a much-needed goal for me and especially for my team-mates and the fans.
"Despite all the time I have gone without scoring a goal, the support they have given me has been incredible.
"Every time I touch the ball I feel there is great expectation and people are hoping for the best for me - I feel wanted here even though I haven't given them anything at the moment."

After Liverpool v Arsenal on Saturday, the Liverpool v North London theme continues. The outcome of that game at Anfield may have a bearing on this one too.
It's not often Spurs fans would hope for an Arsenal win, but even they'll see that if Liverpool have lost to the Gunners, then the race for fourth will have become every bit as tight as the hunt for the title. As a result, Spurs and Everton's clash will have been thrown into even sharper focus.
This may even prove to be the most significant league meeting of the two since Spurs, then in second place, lost at home to league leaders Everton on a Wednesday night in April 1985. Everton, buoyed by the win, went on to win the eighth of their nine titles. I remember it because I was there, my first trip to White Hart Lane, filling time around a university interview.Everton's first season under Roberto Martinez has been little short of spectacular. No team has lost fewer matches, only Arsenal and Chelsea have conceded fewer goals and they are four points better off than at this stage of last season.
The worry now may be that injuries have already put a small squad under pressure. Everton need all their tried and trusted big-game players fit and ready week, in week out.
Spurs also have more points than at this stage of their last campaign, 44 compared to 42, yet somehow there's a feeling that they've underachieved.
It seems as though the Gareth Bale transfer still casts a shadow over the Lane. Proof positive that even £85m is no compensation for a player who at his best is a genuine world beater. Paulinho, Eriksen and on occasion Chiriches have shown their worth, but Chadli, Capoue, Soldado and Lamela have a lot to do before they look any more than expensive squad players.

Arsenal can go four points clear temporarily at the top of the Barclays Premier League if they extend their winning run to eight matches at Southampton on Tuesday. Arsene Wenger's side have found consistency since their 6-3 defeat by Manchester City in December, claiming seven consecutive triumphs in all competitions. They were ruthless in the 4-0 FA Cup defeat of League One Coventry City on Friday and, while much is made of the threat they carry going forward, they have conceded only two goals in the last eight matches.
Wenger's charges have not lost to Southampton since November 2002, but can expect a stern test at St Mary's as they attempt to extend their lead at the top, with City and Chelsea not in action until Wednesday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his first Arsenal start since August against Coventry following a long injury lay-off. The player could be back on the substitutes' bench against his former club, but he is relishing the prospect of returning to the south coast once again.
"To go back there in any sense is always really nice, especially when we go to play them,” he told the club's website. "Last season I went back there and it was a surreal feeling for me, warming up on the opposite side of the pitch and being in the opposite dressing room.
"It was the first time I went back there to play so it was a bit weird for me. I'm looking forward to going back this season, obviously they're doing really well so it's a tough game for us."
Lukas Podolski staked his claim by scoring twice against Coventry, but the Germany forward could also return to the bench. Mikel Arteta (calf), Aaron Ramsey (thigh), Tomas Rosicky (broken nose) and Thomas Vermaelen (knee) are set to be back in contention. Wojciech Szczesny, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Bacary Sagna are expected to be restored to the starting line-up. Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott (both knee) are long-term absentees.
Southampton have won their last three home games and striker Guly do Prado warned Arsenal not to expect an easy ride after scoring in Saturday's FA Cup win over Yeovil Town.

"We get confidence from these wins," the striker told the club's website. "We play for a win in every game, whether it’s in the FA Cup or the Premier League.  The win [v Yeovil] will give us confidence for Tuesday night against Arsenal. Now we have to think about that because it's going to be another big, hard game – but we are going to play to win."
Rickie Lambert (hamstring) and Artur Boruc (back) are expected to return after missing the clash with Yeovil and Victor Wanyama (calf) could feature for the first time since early last month.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is still suspended following a training-ground incident, while Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez (both ankle) remain sidelined.

Southampton (from): Boruc, K Davis, Gazzaniga, Clyne, Fonte, Fox, Hooiveld, Martin, Shaw, Yoshida, Chambers, Cork, S Davis, Guly, Isgrove, Lallana, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Barnard, Lambert, Rodriguez.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that new £21m signing Nemanja Matic will not start against Manchester United. Fellow midfielder Frank Lampard could return from a calf problem but Branislav Ivanovic remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has ruled out strikers Wayne Rooney (groin) and Robin van Persie (thigh) for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Defender Rafael serves the last of his three-match ban.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. It's the tale of Mourinho versus Manchester United.
Chapter one started with a mad March hare-like sprint down the Old Trafford touchline back in the spring of 2004 as Costinha's last-minute goal for FC Porto won a Champions League second-round tie. Chapter two, five months later, was Mourinho's first fixture in English football; it ended in a Chelsea win.
Turn the pages and the plot has thickened as these games against United seem to stand like landmarks measuring the highs and lows of Mourinho's story; bringing one of his conspicuous failures when at Inter, one of his major successes at Real Madrid.
In all, with four clubs, Mourinho has faced Manchester United 17 times, losing only twice.
The latest meeting also went the Portuguese's way. Back in August he travelled to Old Trafford with getting a draw plainly on his agenda. He stifled the life out of United and the game and got the goalless stalemate he wanted.
Mourinho's plan for these games against his biggest rivals seems to be to draw away and win at home, and it's working. Chelsea also drew 0-0 in a tedious pre-Christmas bore-fest at Arsenal, drew at Spurs with 10-men and they've beaten Manchester City and Liverpool at the Bridge. So far, so good.
Can Manchester United derail the master plan? It would be the best result yet for David Moyes at United if they do, easily surpassing the crushing victory in Leverkusen.
If United were to lose it would leave them 12 points adrift of Chelsea with only 16 more games to play and surely with far too much to do to even get a mention in the final chapter of the title story.
Even a United win wouldn't catapult them back into the title reckoning, but it could do a huge amount to repair their damaged confidence.
United have won five of their last six league games and are certainly entitled to believe that the top four is an achievable goal. But if they're to do that they need some landmarks wins of their own somewhere. Stamford Bridge would be the best place to start.

Head-to-head
Manchester United have won more games than Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with 30 wins to Chelsea's 22.
The last fixture at Stamford Bridge saw United win 3-2 against Chelsea's nine men in October 2012.
Jose Mourinho has never lost a home game against Manchester United in two spells as Chelsea manager.
There have been four red cards in as many seasons in fixtures between the two clubs.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho is looking for his 100th Premier League victory as manager.
The Blues have won five and drawn one of their last six Premier League games, conceding only two goals.
Chelsea have won a league-high four Premier League matches from losing positions.
It is 19 games since Chelsea last lost at Stamford Bridge - a 1-0 derby defeat by Queens Park Rangers on 2 January 2013.
Eden Hazard has already matched his tally of nine league goals from last season.
Juan Mata has scored on each of his last three league appearances against Manchester United.

Manchester United
United are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League away matches (W5, D2).
They have lost six of their first 21 league matches for the first time since 2001-02.
David Moyes' side have only won two of 10 matches against top-half opposition this season (W2, D3, L5).
The Red Devils have earned 10 points from losing positions, a record bettered only by Chelsea (14).
Danny Welbeck has scored in his last three Premier League games for United, and has six goals in as many appearances.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is ruled out because of a cut to his knee. Jack Wilshere begins a two-game ban for misconduct, but Lukas Podolski is available to make his comeback from a hamstring injury.
Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic returns from suspension, meaning Cesar Azpilicueta reverts to left-back and Ashley Cole will drop to the bench.
Michael Essien serves a one-game ban after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Sunderland.
It's easy to forget that Arsenal came out of last weekend's round of Premier League matches still on top of the table.
The nature of their defeat at Manchester City, and the fact that many pundits already thought they couldn't win the league, has seen Arsene Wenger's team practically dismissed as contenders rather than being respected as leaders. If Arsenal were to lose to Chelsea as well, the naysayers will have a field day. Win, lose or draw, the reality is that both Arsenal and Chelsea are likely to be competing for the title well into the spring at least.
Chelsea have already won at the Emirates this season, in a League Cup tie in October. That took to nine the sequence of matches in which Arsene Wenger has tried and failed to beat Jose Mourinho and meant that Chelsea, under a giddying variety of managers, have lost only twice in their last 11 visits to Arsenal.
Dropping any points would see Arsenal relinquish top spot for the first time since September, whilst defeat would be a third consecutive loss for Arsenal for the first time since they were beaten by Barcelona, Tottenham and Wigan in quick succession in the spring of 2010.
But Chelsea look beatable. Mourinho himself has warned that they may win nothing this season, and the League Cup defeat at a spirited but limited Sunderland has raised further question marks - particularly away from home where they have lost four of their last six matches in all competitions.
Scoring goals is one of their more obvious difficulties. Prior to the weekend, there were 11 players who have scored more Premier League goals than Chelsea's top scorer, who is Eden Hazard with six league strikes. The Blues' most prolific scorer in the Premier League, Romelu Lukaku, is playing on loan for Everton.
It's possible that both managers might think a point is a decent outcome, but such is the lingering whiff of antipathy between them, it's possible that both will strain every sinew to inflict a satisfying blow to the other. If they do, it'll be well worth watching.

Head-to-head
Chelsea have won the three most recent encounters, including a 2-0 away win in the fourth round of the League Cup on 29 October.
Arsene Wenger has never won against Jose Mourinho as an opposition manager. His record is four draws and five defeats in nine league and cup games.

Arsenal
In the Gunners' 6-3 defeat at Manchester City, nine of the 13 shots on target resulted in goals.
That result was their heaviest league loss since the 8-2 thrashing at Manchester United in August 2011.
They conceded as many goals at the Etihad Stadium as in their previous 11 league games.
Arsenal are one shy of 1300 Premier League points under Arsene Wenger.

Chelsea
Chelsea have had 11 different managers (excluding short-term caretakers) since Arsene Wenger was appointed, and 12 in total following Jose Mourinho's return for a second spell in charge.
In the last six meetings between the sides, Wenger has faced five different Chelsea managers.
The Blues have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League matches.
Eden Hazard has registered 15 Premier League assists since the start of last season. Prior to the latest round of matches, only Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard have matched that tally.
No striker has scored an away league goal for Chelsea in 2013. Fernando Torres was the last centre forward to net on the road for the Blues, doing so in a 3-1 win at Sunderland on 8 December 2012.
Juan Mata has scored in each of his four starts against Arsenal in all competitions for Chelsea.
