Arsenal to trigger Loic Remy's £8million transfer release clause this summer

By Neil Moxley
The France forward has impressed on loan at Newcastle United and Arsene Wenger wants him on board at the Emirates Stadium

Loic who it is! Remy is on Arsenal's radar
Arsene Wenger will use an £8million clause in Loic Remy’s contract to gazump Newcastle United for the forward’s signature this summer, writes Neil Moxley of the Sunday People .
The France international has a get-out in his agreement that allows him to quit QPR for that figure and the Arsenal boss is poised to pounce.
Remy has spent this season on loan with the Tynesiders, jumping ship after the west London team was relegated last term.
Remy’s 13 goals this season have played a major part in pushing Alan Pardew’s men up the Premier League table.
And there are growing signs that Lukas Podolski will not be the answer for Arsenal on a long-term basis and Wenger needs extra firepower.
Rangers, who posted £65.4m losses this week, will have little say in the matter once the clause has been activated.

Arsenal set to raid Marseille for a Keeper? Managing players, or not in some cases….

Morning all.
Why is it that some players at Arsenal contracts or maybe even players aren’t managed well enough?
Edu, Andrei Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner and even Lukas Podoski are just a few who spring to mind yet I know all of you could probably name more, many more.
Edu was a wonderful player who joined us back in January 2001 when he as 23 years old. During his four and a half seasons with us, he featured in 100 matches. Of course that amount averages out quite well but it’s a false reflection really on how many times he played per season.  He managed just five between January and the summer of his first season, after which he played 27, 29, 48 (48 being the invincible season) as the seasons followed but the telling one was his final season in which he made just 18 appearances.
After that final season when Edu played in just 18 matches, he left on a Bosman.
Then of course Nikki B, the man with a huge ego, but its fair to say he hasn’t ever backed up his ego with the level of performance you’d expect to match it. Well, not for us but for his country, he’s seldom let them down.
Arsenal: Games 106, Goals 24
Denmark: Games 56, Goals 24
Mind you, he’s a striker, a big strong striker and being asked to play out wide each week would have hardly helped his Arsenal cause but clearly when he plays for Denmark, he plays central, just as he should.
Even now, when we are so short up front, Arsene Wenger sees Yaya Sanogo as the way forward rather that select a player with a lot more experience.
This summer, he will leave on a Bosman.
Arshavin came to us a few years ago and to be honest from the January he signed through to the end of that particular season, he was on fire, in fact some might be tempted to suggest that his arrival secured us Champions League football that year. But after that it didn’t always appear that he was willing to give his everything each game in fact he’d often be seen with his head downwards as he’d lost the ball one more time….
We know what happened to Arshavin don’t we. Over the few years he was with us, his confidence dropped because he wasn’t being played, his game suffered and the fans were on his back. Eventually he said goodbye and who could blame him. In his first full season he made 39 appearances, in his second, 52 appearances then during his last, just 11….
At the end of that last season, he left on a Bosman.
Lukas Podolski, a German international who Arsenal fans couldn’t wait to see in the red and white of our club but can anyone honestly say we have seen enough of kind of player we thought we’d signed? Now it seems Wenger is reluctant to start him, just has he was with our Russian, yet both on their day were/are capable of changing a game…..
I have a feeling that he will turn his back on us this summer and I’d understand why. He’s not getting any younger and he wants to be playing the game he loves, not just sitting on the bench watching everyone else, especially when some are either young and raw or simply under performing….
Last season, his first, he played in 42 fixtures, scoring 16 goals and most expected that this would truly be his season but to date, he’s only featured in 12 matches and most of those have been from the bench. I know he’s been out injured but he’s been fit and healthy and ready to play since the start of the year and we’ve had a lot of fixtures since then….
I wouldn’t bet against Podolski going back to where we signed him from either and when does his contract run out?
Maybe this time, the club will try and recoup some of the money they paid for him, rather than let him walk for free…….
If the club don’t sign the right kind of players this summer and we don’t start playing with pace and movement when attacking, you know, the style of play which will bring the best out of £42 million man, we could be saying the same things about Mesut Ozil this time next season..
There is still time to play in such a way this season if Arsene Wenger really wanted to…..
Finally, The Metro report that Wenger wants to sign France international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from Marseille at the end of the season to add competition to current first-choice Wojciech Szczesny.
Apparently he’s ready for a new challenge and the Premier League is his favoured option.
Not to play second fiddle to Szczesny I suspect so if we do sign him, they’ll be a real battle for the number one spot. Good, that’s just what we need, in fact we need that kind of competition all over the pitch…

Sergio Aguero and Micah Richards are back in training but both are not yet ready for a first-team return.West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will put Roger Johnson straight into his squad after the defender signed on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season.
They are still without a host of injured players including Winston Reid and Andy Carroll, while captain Kevin Nolan is banned.
A trip to the Etihad is probably the last ground in English football that beleaguered West Ham manager Sam Allardyce would like his team to visit right now given his side's shocking run of form and appalling injury list.
The 5-0 defeat his shadow side suffered at the hands of Championship club Nottingham Forest at the weekend saw speculation increase that Allardyce was set to lose his job but in a letter to the club's supporters he received the backing, for now, from Hammers' co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
West Ham have never won the League Cup but the odds on them beating Manchester City over two legs of this semi-final are very long indeed. City are unstoppable at home and have scored an incredible 53 goals in 14 matches at the Etihad this season.
Allardyce will surely be hoping the best his injury-ravaged squad can do is limit the damage to give his side any hope in the second leg at Upton Park.

Head-to-head
Manchester City have met West Ham United once in the League Cup back in 1984, beating the Hammers 2-1 in a replay at Upton Park after a goalless draw at Maine Road.
City won the last meeting between the two clubs, away at Upton Park, 3-1 in October.
West Ham have won only once at the Etihad Stadium, beating City in an FA Cup quarter-final tie in 2006.
Both clubs were semi-finalists in 1964 and 2011, with West Ham losing to the eventual winners on both occasions.

Manchester City
City have twice won the League Cup, beating West Bromwich Albion in 1970 and Newcastle United in 1976 - and were losing finalists against Wolves in 1974.
Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko has scored in all three of City's ties so far this season.
None of City's League Cup scorers this season have been English.
Liverpool are the only side to beat Manchester City in a home semi-final tie in this competition - in 1981 and 2012.

West Ham United
West Ham have been losing finalists twice in League Cup history - versus West Bromwich Albion in 1966 and Liverpool in 1981.
The Hammers have scored nine goals in four League Cup ties, almost half the 19 goals they have scored in 20 league games.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce led former club Bolton to the 2004 League Cup final where they lost to Middlesbrough.

The two sides, who drew 0-0 in the initial tie on 7 December, will look to settle their second roundreplay for the third time.
The first attempt on 18 December was abandoned midway through the second half because of a waterlogged pitch, and the fixture was re-arranged for Saturday, 4 January.
However the match was postponed when the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium failed aninspection.
The winners of this tie will face a trip to Championship club Birmingham City in the third round on Wednesday, 15 January.
The eventual winners of that match will welcome Premier League side Swansea, who knocked out Manchester United, in the fourth round on the weekend of 25-26 January.
Crawley Town manager John Gregory told BBC Sussex:
"They have been a little bit indifferent. They are a bit hot and cold which is possibly why they are where they are in League Two.
"Whenever the game does go ahead they will be fired up and have nothing to lose.
"The draw has pitched the winner to travel to Birmingham and it is an opportunity to make extra finance as well.
"Maybe me and John Ward should have a penalty shoot-out in the car park to get it sorted and find out who the winner is. I'd back myself on that one."
After falling two goals behind on Saturday, defender James Hurst was withdrawn early as Gregory opted to alter his system with his fantastic replacement, Andy Drury, will probably be hoping to did enough to earn a recall for the starting XI.
Mark McChrystal isn't likely to return to action for Bristol Rovers. The centre-back rejoined his team-mates for training on Monday morning having endured tendinitis as part of his knee but this cup clash looks to possess come too soon for the 29-year-old.
Long-term injury absentees Jim Paterson and Danny Woodards may also be back in full training but the pair need some matches under their belt before being considered for first-team action.

Defender Garry Kenneth left the club my mutual consent on Tuesday and definately will therefore also not be involved, although he was unlikely to feature.
Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe was Rovers' first reduction in 10 and they will head to Crawley as underdogs despite drawing 0-0 within the original tie.
John Gregory should go in search of his first win in control of Crawley after they host Bristol Rovers within their FA Cup second-round replay at the Broadfield Stadium.

Andre Villa Boas will look to his big money signings, Soldado, Lamela and Erickson to help the crowd forget Bale and I think that on Saturday the shackles will come off a Tottenham team that have stuggled to score from open play thus far this season. Spurs have only netted two goals in three games and all three of their games this season have finished 1-0. Norwich City have also struggled in front of goal and won 1-0 last time out against Southampton in a game that they easily could have lost. Overall, Norwich manager Chris Hughton is doing a great job and he will look to set his team up to be hard to beat when the Canaries visit Tottenham this weekend. But on Saturday, I have a feeling that Tottenham are due a big offensive performance and I think if spurs get on top early, they could win this game by three or 4. I'm going to take Tottenham to win minus the handicap.
This week FootyMad's match preview focuses on the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City at 15:00 on 14th September 2013 in the Premier League.
Footymad preview History of the Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City fixture

Tottenham Hotspur prepare to entertain Norwich City at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, looking to continue an impressive record. The Spurs are clearly on top, having won 15 and lost only 5 of the 27 games.
The most recent encounter between these two sides at White Hart Lane was just last season, in September 2012, where the two sides shared the spoils courtesy of a 1-1 final scoreline in a Premier League match.
Tottenham Hotspur could not have a worse home record, losing every single one of the last six matches played! These low-scoring games have seen just 0 goals scored and conceded.
The away form of Norwich City is pretty dire, losing every single one of the last six matches played! These low-scoring games have seen just 0 goals scored and conceded.
Tottenham Hotspur lie just outside the playoff positions in the Barclays Premier League, picking up 6 points from their 3 games so far.
Norwich City's 4 points from 3 games sees them lie inside the top half of the table, in 9th position.

Schalke 04 opens its 2013-2014 Bundesliga bid at home to Hamburger SV. With odds already in full swing, one thing becomes immediately clear: Schalke 04 are the runaway favourites to beat their northern rivals.
Will they come through on their odds or is there value on the underdog? Join us as we dissect this matchup and deliver our soccer picks for your consideration.
Schalke 04 have home ground advantage and good form
Since 2000-2001 Bundesliga action, Schalke 04 has finished runner-up four times – bit of a case of always a bridesmaid, never a bride – including the 2009-2010 season. Last year however, Schalke 04 clawed its way to fourth finish (55 points and a 16-7-11 mark) by the skin of their teeth, with a last match win at Freiburg. While a fourth place finish is indeed commendable, the manner in which they accomplished it was not.
That account has left many indifferent towards Coach Jens Keller, who replaced Huub Stevens midway through last season, and somewhat hesitant to back him and his men in the season proper. But not the soccer odds makers though. If the overarching Bundesliga odds were any indication, Schalke is expected to perform true to past form. They are listed as third favourites (co-favourites with Bayer Leverkusen) at +2500 to win the Bundesliga and as well at a solid -138 to clinch another Top Four finish.

Arsene Wenger's men have so far beaten an Indonesia XI, a Vietnam XI and Nagoya Grampus Eight by comfortable margins as the players find their fitness and form.

Look out for budding star Gedion Zelalem, who's lit up the Gunners' preseason tour with some truly spectacular performances so far.

Join me for live coverage of the game, starting 30 minutes before kickoff.
Arsenal will look to complete an undefeated Asia tour with one more friendly against Urawa Red Diamonds.

So far this preseason, the English club has already defeated the Indonesia Dream Team, Vietnam and Nagoya Grampus by a combined score of 17-2. The squad will look to keep that strong play going with a matchup against one of the top clubs in the J-League.

With less than a month remaining until the start of the Premier League, it will be important to fix any remaining problems before the matches start to count.

After scoring on a penalty shot against Nagoya Grampus in the last match, it would not be surprising to see Ryo Miyaichi get some more playing time in this one.

The Japanese native spent last season with Wigan Athletic on loan and is probably still a few years from being a regular contributor on the roster, but the 20-year-old winger shows plenty of potential with his play.

In yet another match against a Japanese opponent, Ryo should get a warm reception from the home crowd as he looks to make some more big plays for his club. If he does keep up the strong play, there could be more appearances ahead for the young player.

The Brazilian forward came over from fellow Japanese club Albirex Niigata a couple of years prior and  has continued to be a strong offensive force for the Reds.

Márcio Richardes has a knack for being in the right place at the right time in front of the net, and he is a strong finisher when he has a chance to score.

Arsenal better know where he is on the pitch at all times; otherwise, it will be tough to keep Urawa off the scoreboard.
