Wigan have already knocked out Premier League opposition this term in the shape of Crystal Palace.
Uwe Rosler's men come into the game in good form, having ended Sheffield Wednesday outstanding run with a 3-0 win at Hillsborough in midweek.
Cardiff played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa in midweek as their battle against relegation from the Premier League continues.
It remains to be seen how strong a team Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will field.
Across the border Cardiff will look to bounce back from their derby day drubbing against the defending champions Wigan.
The Latics saw off Premier League opposition in the last round and with a number of recent acquisitions might just feel capable of snatching something here.
Cardiff did some good business as well, with Wilfried Zaha in particular looking like a signing that might affect the outcome of their season.
Wigan have had their troubles on the road this season, having notched up 9 goals in 14 away games in the Championship.

Cardiff are set to make wholesale changes for the clash with Wigan.
Kenwyne Jones and Fabio are cup-tied, while they are waiting on permission from Manchester United to play Wilfried Zaha.
Craig Bellamy is also missing as he is suspended and Jordon Mutch is injured. Steven Caulker and Gary Medel are likely to be rested.
Spanish defender Juan Cala is set make his debut, while Norwegian trio of Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Moller Daehli and Jo Inge Berget could all start.

Wigan will have to make changes to their side after their midweek win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Nicky Maynard, who claimed a brace at Hillsborough, cannot play as he is cup-tied.
Ivan Ramis, who saw a deadline day move to Cardiff fall through, could make his first appearance since January 1st.
Shaun Maloney remains sidelined with his long-term hip problem.

He could replace Jonny Evans, who is out with a calf strain, although fellow defender Phil Jones is available.
Fulham's record signing Kostas Mitroglou is likely to make his debut, either from the start or off the bench.
Fellow transfer deadline day signing Johnny Heitinga is also expected to be involved for the first time.
So dire is Fulham's predicament that some thought Rene Meulensteen wouldn't make it as far as his Old Trafford return this weekend.
As it is, the Dutchman will take his 16th game in charge of Fulham, but unless he can quickly get his team to stop conceding goals and gain some points the speculation about how many more matches he'll have will only increase.
Alan Curbishley's appointment as technical director just before Christmas was supposed to help Meulensteen but it's looking more like a millstone for him at the moment. Ironic really, given that the current head coach was himself brought in to 'help' Martin Jol in November!
Meulensteen's assessment that Tuesday night's FA Cup replay defeat by League One Sheffield United meant Fulham had "hit rock bottom" might not be correct - they could take more crushing blows yet. The Cottagers have lost each of their last 11 games away to Manchester United, and this one is followed by Liverpool at home on Wednesday.

Head-to-head
Manchester United have won their last 11 league and cup games against Fulham at Old Trafford, scoring 30 goals.
Fulham have avoided defeat at United only once in 51 years - a 3-1 Premier League victory in October 2003, when Lee Clark, Steed Malbranque and Junichi Inamoto scored for the visitors.
United have kept five clean sheets in their last six home league games against Fulham.

Manchester United
Manchester United are 19 points, seven wins, six places and 20 goals worse off than at the same stage of last season. It's their lowest points tally after 24 matches since the 1990-91 season, when they also had 40 points - and lost their next three matches.
They have lost four Premier League home matches this season - the most since suffering six defeats at Old Trafford in 2001-02.
David Moyes' side have only dropped four points from winning positions, the best record in the division.
Robin van Persie has scored six goals in his last seven league appearances.
Wayne Rooney has scored in five of United's last six games against Fulham in all competitions. In total, he has 10 Premier League goals against Fulham for United.

Fulham
Fulham have lost 13 of their last 16 league games, including the last four.
Their last three Premier League games have been goalless at half-time but they have lost all three, conceding a total of seven goals without reply.
Under Rene Meulensteen, Fulham have conceded 29 goals in 11 games, five more than they did in 13 games under Martin Jol this season.
They have gone 20 Premier League games without a draw, the second longest such run in thePremier League behind Bolton's 28-game streak between March and December 2011.
Meulensteen spent 12 years as a coach at Manchester United between 2001 and 2013, apart from a six-month spell as manager at Brondby in 2006-07.

Swansea City will eye the visit of Fulham as an opportunity to arrest an eight-game winless run in the Barclays Premier League. That alarming dip in form has dropped Michael Laudrup's side to within three points of the relegation zone, having enjoyed an eight-point cushion in early December, when Fulham were 18th.
Rene Meulensteen's side have since climbed one place but the gap to Swansea is just two points and Fulham can go above their hosts for the first time since August with victory on Tuesday.
Away days have provided Fulham with little cheer this season, particularly since the 4-1 win at Crystal Palace in October. Fulham have played seven away matches in the top flight since that triumph, winning just one and conceding 22 goals in the process.
Swansea's recent home form will offer the visitors some cause for optimism, however, with Laudrup's men having lost their last three at the Liberty Stadium. The hosts may cite mitigating circumstances, though, having played Everton, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in that run.
November's meeting between the two had Swansea run out 2-1 winners, Jonjo Shelvey netting the winner in the last 10 minutes. Wilfried Bony was the Welsh club's hero in the FA Cup on Saturday as he came off the bench at half-time to score twice and secure a 2-1 triumph over Birmingham City. With six goals in his last six games, the Ivorian is likely to start against Fulham, but Laudrup has several injury concerns.

Shelvey (hamstring), Michu and Jose Canas (both ankle) are out, while midfielders Nathan Dyer (ankle) and Jonathan de Guzman (calf), as well as goalkeeper Michel Vorm (knee), could come into the reckoning.
The visitors, having made 11 changes in the 1-1 draw in the FA Cup against Sheffield United on Sunday, will be comparatively fresh, with Fernando Amorebieta (knee) and Matt Briggs (hernia) their only absentees.

The two sides, who drew 0-0 in the initial tie on 7 December, will look to settle their second roundreplay for the third time.
The first attempt on 18 December was abandoned midway through the second half because of a waterlogged pitch, and the fixture was re-arranged for Saturday, 4 January.
However the match was postponed when the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium failed aninspection.
The winners of this tie will face a trip to Championship club Birmingham City in the third round on Wednesday, 15 January.
The eventual winners of that match will welcome Premier League side Swansea, who knocked out Manchester United, in the fourth round on the weekend of 25-26 January.
Crawley Town manager John Gregory told BBC Sussex:
"They have been a little bit indifferent. They are a bit hot and cold which is possibly why they are where they are in League Two.
"Whenever the game does go ahead they will be fired up and have nothing to lose.
"The draw has pitched the winner to travel to Birmingham and it is an opportunity to make extra finance as well.
"Maybe me and John Ward should have a penalty shoot-out in the car park to get it sorted and find out who the winner is. I'd back myself on that one."
After falling two goals behind on Saturday, defender James Hurst was withdrawn early as Gregory opted to alter his system with his fantastic replacement, Andy Drury, will probably be hoping to did enough to earn a recall for the starting XI.
Mark McChrystal isn't likely to return to action for Bristol Rovers. The centre-back rejoined his team-mates for training on Monday morning having endured tendinitis as part of his knee but this cup clash looks to possess come too soon for the 29-year-old.
Long-term injury absentees Jim Paterson and Danny Woodards may also be back in full training but the pair need some matches under their belt before being considered for first-team action.

Defender Garry Kenneth left the club my mutual consent on Tuesday and definately will therefore also not be involved, although he was unlikely to feature.
Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Morecambe was Rovers' first reduction in 10 and they will head to Crawley as underdogs despite drawing 0-0 within the original tie.
John Gregory should go in search of his first win in control of Crawley after they host Bristol Rovers within their FA Cup second-round replay at the Broadfield Stadium.

Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal begin 2014 with a home game against Cardiff City on New Year's Day. Having been briefly replaced at the top of the table by Manchester City on Saturday, Arsene Wenger's men returned to the summit 24 hours later courtesy of a battling 1-0 win at in-form Newcastle United. Arsenal will be aiming to claim another three points against a Cardiff side who have mustered one win in nine matches and sit 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone. David Kerslake is set to be in caretaker charge of the Welsh outfit once again at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday after the dismisssal of Malky Mackay last week.
Kerslake oversaw Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Sunderland, which saw the League's bottom club come from two goals down to snatch a point, and is hopeful Cardiff can build on their display against Arsenal in the reverse fixture in November.
Although last season's Championship winners were beaten 3-0 that day, with former Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey scoring twice, Arsenal only made the game safe with two goals in the final four minutes.
"We held our own against them," said Kerslake. "We know they are one of the finest sides in Europe. We had a good go at them here, so we go there in good spirits."

Cardiff's last victory over Arsenal came in February 1961, although the two sides have only met 12 times since.
German playmaker Mesut Ozil is likely to be unavailable for Wenger's men, having missed the win over Newcastle with a shoulder injury. Ramsey, one of the standout players in the Premier League this season, remains sidelined by a thigh problem, while Cardiff's Craig Bellamy is still battling a knee complaint.
Arsenal are unbeaten in eight League home games since losing to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, but have been held to draws by Everton and Chelsea in their last two matches at the Emirates Stadium. Cardiff's only away win to date came at Fulham on 28 September.
